After months of neglect, I am finally writing a blog post. Yes, it’s been busy lately. We are intricately involved with the Grow America Springboard business competition. I wear several different hats, and the most entertaining one involves my interaction with the people who are participating in the competition.
Recently, I called a competitor and said, “Hello, this is Colette from the Grow America Springboard Competition.”
“I don’t know you,” he responded, and the line went dead.
Naturally, I called him back. “Hi Sir, this is Colette with the Grow America Springboard Competition, I…”
Interrupting me abruptly, he said, “Look, I don’t know who this is, but I’m not involved with girls diving off swimming boards, so don’t call me.”
Surprised and entertained by this interpretation, I explained to the man that our competition isn’t for girls jumping off diving boards, but for passionate entrepreneurs who want to win money, gain access to vital business services, and take advantage of valuable networking opportunities. Luckily, I cleared that one up.
Since then, I’ve been aware of the perplexed looks people sport when I tell them I’m working on the Grow America Springboard Competition. Instead of just throwing the name around, I now explain that I work with an entrepreneurial competition that is awarding winners in Utah $1 million in cash and services between now and early 2013.
Once that is out on the table, then the questions start flooding in.
So, who’s it for? Can I compete? What’s the catch?
The answers are easy. It’s for anyone who has an idea, start-up or a profitable business looking to expand. You submit your business idea in the first round. If the judges find that it is a viable business or idea that will create jobs in Utah, you’ll advance in the competition. The very best ideas win no-strings-attached cash awards.
What does eSilverBullet do in all of this? There’s a lot, so I’ll stick with the basics. We’re giving the winners, custom web design and development, along with subscriptions to our website builder. Depending on where the winners place, depends on how much of these services they receive.
So all in all, I tell people that we still help business owners build high-powered eCommerce websites, and we also springboard entrepreneurs toward success. Then if they ask how, I tell them more.
